Approved Retirement Funds (25 second read)
An ARF is a post retirement product which you use to invest your accumulated pension funds and you can opt to take an ongoing income from the fund.
Managing your investment post retirement is fundamentally different to managing it during your younger years because instead of contributing to the fund you are taking an income from the fund, so the mechanics involved are completely different and the implications of high volatility of returns are more severe. A large fall in the value of your retirement assets will be more detrimental for a person who is taking an income from the fund as when there is a reduction in the value of the fund the withdrawal acts to crystallise some of the loss.
